Aku was a floating fortress city in the Uuserk Marshes in Jamuraa. Originally the city was located on Dominaria but it now exists as part of the plane of Zhalfir.

History[ | ]

Aku was built by the mundungu, the alliance of Shadow Guild and Shaper Guild mages from Zhalfir. The city was constructed to hold the pillar tombs of Zhalfirin royalty, preventing them from being desecrated by grave robbers. Thus, Aku was built in Uuserk, the most inhospitable region of Zhalfir. Its powerful mages and flesh-hungry djinn kept the demons of Kaervek away from it during the war and were instrumental to his defeat. Kaervek was buried in one of the pillar tombs of Aku.

Aku was phased out, alongside the rest of northwestern Jamuraa, by Teferi in order to spare it from the horrors of the Phyrexian Invasion. It was forever lost from Dominaria after Jeska destroyed the time rift over the Zhalfirin Void.

At the conclusion of New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, Wrenn and Realmbreaker returned the phased out Zhalfir to the multiverse by switching the landmass' place with that of New Phyrexia. Aku now exist as part of the plane of Zhalfir.

Known locations[ | ]

  • The Amber Tombs, where the prisoners of the Amber Prisons were kept secure.[1] A large domed chamber that is silenced rather than echoing like a concert hall. A warding pendulum was suspended from the dome's apex to serve as a warning system, though it snapped and fell to the chamber's floor during Kaervek's escape.
