Alliances has arrived! Across the world of Dominaria, the great Ice Age draws to its inexorable conclusion. Storms and flooding plague the land, and frost is replaced by mud. Those that survived the cold must now forge alliances to face the dark legacy of the wizards who had been trapped there for so long. [1]
Return to besieged Terisiare, where the druid Kaysa has grown up to fall in love with none other than that wayward Knight of Kjeldor, Jaeuhl Carthalion! But has this elven juvenile delinquent truly grown up? What becomes of this star-crossed couple in the twilight of Dominaria's endless winter? [1]
Also revealed in this story, is the flash point between Kristina of the Woods, and fan-favorite, Taysir of Rabiah, which leads to the tragic events of the Planeswalker War![1]
Plot[ | ]
This story adapts the events surrounding the enchanted forest of Yavimaya. Jaeuhl Carthalion has grown into adulthood, having conceived a child with the Ley Druid Kaysa, and is facing a crisis born of the legacy of the World Spell. The plot sets the stage for the mixing of the House Carthalion lineage with that of the Elder Druids of Dominaria. Their descendant Jared Carthalion bears Kaysa's crescent-shaped birthmark of the Elder Druids on his right cheek. It is a fated mark, representing Jared's pivotal role in the turning of Dominaria's wheel of destiny.[1]
Across Dominaria, the warming climate causes major flooding. The unnatural speed with which the planet struggles out of the Ice Age causes violent storms which only add to the inhabitants' misery. On Terisiare, the city of Soldev is crushed by rampaging artifact creatures. The nations of Kjeldor and Balduvia attempt to find peace in the face of the encroaching floods, whilst Fyndhorn forest is largely lost beneath the waves and the countryside consumed with plague. Escaping this catastrophe, a convoy of Elves escape to the Yavimaya forest. They are led by Kaysa, the new Elder Druid, and Jaeuhl Carthalion, now the leader of the Juniper Order Advocates, a knightly order of Kjeldor dedicated to strengthening ties to the Elves. [1]
Unfortunately for the Elves, the forest is inhabited by a malign sentience that takes a dislike to visitors. After an epic struggle, peace is made with the intelligent Yavimayan apes, and the Elves are allowed to settle. Jaeuhl and Kaysa have a child, and the Carthalion lineage continues. With the end of the floods, Terisiare is no longer a true continent. The flood waters and oceans have flowed into the gashes left by the glaciers and filled the cavernous strip mines left by the Brothers' War. Terisiare is reduced to an extensive archipelago, and many of its greatest treasures are lost beneath the waves.[1]
With the entire multiverse open to them, Taysir speaks to Kristina about the desires he has been hiding from her. He has fallen in love with her, his constant traveling companion, and he wishes for them to be married and settle down on his home plane of Rabiah. For him to be able to return, however, he would need the release of power from a planeswalker's spark to break the ban placed upon him by the dark sorceress Nailah. This spark was to be Kristina's, and she would thus become a mortal woman, living out her life with him on his home plane.[1]
Kristina, however, needs solitude, a time to selflessly reattune herself with nature, and she has no choice but to turn him away. Taysir, heartbroken, speeds into the void, where he throws himself into obsessive exploration. Eventually, when this is no longer sufficient to distract him from his heartache, he turns to the pursuit of vengeance against Leshrac and Tevesh Szat. Occasionally, Taysir - spurred on by his new spellsquire Ravidel - will return to spy upon Kristina. He will follow her across the Multiverse, eventually coming to a dark confrontation - on the plane of Ulgrotha.[1]
