Alyse is a human farmer from Eldraine, and the mother of Kellan.[1]

Alyse is a concerned and caring mother, who is both practical and empathetic, responsive to Kellan's needs, and concerned for his well-being. Like her son, she has dark hair and hazel eyes. She is deeply involved in the day-to-day care of her family and remains supportive despite the challenges Kellan faces.[2] Her presence is marked by both her artistic and magical talents, which she dedicates to her family with unwavering love.[3]

Alyse trained as a hedgewitch for five years. Shortly after arriving in Eldraine around 4545 AR, the young faerie planeswalker Oko met Alyse in a field of nightshade. The two met regularly in the same location over the next few years and shared knowledge of their planes. Alyse left her mistress and began learning magic from Oko, and he promised her a throne. She eventually became pregnant with Kellan. Upset at the villagers' dislike and mistreatment of his lover, Oko lashed out at them, causing Alyse to leave him. She later became a weaver and married the shepherd Ronald.[4] On Oko's return in 4560 AR, he reached out to Alyse again, but she chose to remain with her son.[3]
Years later when her son was becoming an adult, she immediately noticed his injuries upon his return home from a scuffle. Despite his attempts to downplay the situation, she tended to his wounds with care, trying to understand the cause of his distress. Alyse, troubled by the sight of cold iron nails and yew shavings, questioned Kellan about the incident. When he revealed that the Cotter boys had mistreated him, she wanted to confront them but was deterred by Kellan's insistence that it wasn't their fault. Alyse then reassured Kellan, comforting him with the promise of belonging and support, despite his fears about his heritage and the woods. Later, during their ritual of storytelling at the old willow tree, Alyse unwittingly witnessed Kellan's momentous decision to enter the faerie realm. Despite her efforts to shield him from the harsh realities of the fae world, Kellan ventured into the unknown, driven by his quest for self-discovery and acceptance.[2]
When Kellan returned home from his quest, Alyse greeted him with tears of joy and presented him with a beautifully embroidered and enchanted coat, which she made for him during his absence. She lovingly explained that she had enchanted the coat to ensure its protection. Alyse then took the opportunity to share the story of Kellan's birth father, recounting her past experiences and the sacrifices she made. Despite her emotions, Alyse remained calm and supportive, offering Kellan insight into his father’s identity and their shared history.[3]
