Artifact planeswalkers are both artifacts and planeswalkers and therefore the rules for both apply to them. R&D has deliberately avoided combining the Planeswalker type with other card types to keep planeswalkers unique.[1]
Artifact planeswalkers were first featured on one test card in the Mystery Booster 2 set: Luxior, Ignited. They are not featured in the Comprehensive Rules.
