Avenger is an obsolete creature type used to represent a Class of people who inflict vengeance in response to something bad that has occurred to them or something they cared about.

Avenger debuted as a creature type in Legends on Righteous Avengers which appeared as a group of human soldiers from Dominaria rushing forward to attack over some righteous cause. It was later made obsolete and given errata to be Soldier with the release of Masters Edition in Magic Online and the Grand Creature Type Update later added the Human race to them as well.
