Azar was a wizard from Shandalar.[1]

History[ | ]

Along with the Guardian, Azar was an apprentice of Kenan Sahrmal. During Lim-Dûl's War, Azar fought Lim-Dûl, destroying the necromancer's body. However, Lim-Dûl was prepared for this, and managed to take control of Azar's body. The two souls were trapped together in Azar's body, each one vying for control. The body went rigid and did not respond, so Sahrmal quietly buried it in a necropolis.[1]

Many years later, Lim-Dûl won the battle of souls, banishing Azar's from his body and rising from his grave and starting the Wizards' War. After killing the black guildlord, he was eventually defeated and imprisoned in the Chain Veil, an artifact used to power the Great Barrier of Shandalar.[1]

The now soulless body of Azar, however, had been exposed to too much necromantic magic over many long years. It rose on its own and took the name Skavius Slan, the immortal lich lord. Then it took command of the Black Guild and ruled for ages, even among the passing of the other Guildlords. It wasn't until Arzakon's War happened a long time later, that Skavius Slan was destroyed and Azar's long haunted body finally came to an end.[1]
