Baki was a dwarven wizard attendant of unknown gender from the Council of Wizards on the Floating Isle on Ulgrotha around the time of the Homelands (ca. 3800 AR).
Description[ | ]
Baki was marked by their deep knowledge, practical insight, and cautious approach to magic. As a member of the ruling body of the Wizards' School, Baki played a role in maintaining the school’s neutrality and ensuring the safety of the seas for trade. Baki was a knowledgeable and cautious wizard who valued practical ingenuity and ethical considerations in their magical practices. Their role on the Council of Wizards reflected their commitment to maintaining peace and neutrality, while their personal beliefs and experiences highlighted a thoughtful and deliberate approach to the use of magic.[1]
Baki’s respect for the ingenuity of others was evident in their admiration for the people of Aysen, who used stones from Aliban's Tower to build their roads.[2] This appreciation for practical solutions also extended to their acknowledgment of the Anaba Shamans, whom Baki regarded as masters of earth magic.[3]
A cautious and thoughtful practitioner, Baki believed in the importance of deliberate and measured spellcasting, as reflected in their opinion that those who cast spells too hastily should regret it. This perspective likely influenced their approach to magic, emphasizing the importance of careful consideration and control.[4]
Baki’s experiences on the Floating Isle broadened their perspective, particularly in dealing with magical constructs like clockwork gnomes, which required maintenance and care. This practical engagement with the creations of the Wizards' School highlighted their hands-on approach and technical proficiency.[5]
Despite their involvement in the creation and maintenance of various magical inventions, Baki did not take pride in all of them. For instance, they found the roterothopter insidious and distanced themself from it, indicating a moral and ethical consideration in their work.[6]
Baki's warnings about the Dark Maze, advising against straying onto its path, showcased their awareness of the dangers inherent in the practice of magic and the environments created by it. This awareness shows Baki's cautious nature and their protective attitude towards others.[7]
As a member of the Council of Wizards, Baki was involved in the broader political and magical strategies of the school. The Council, which was led by powerful mages like its founder Feroz and the Wizard Savant Reveka, aimed to maintain neutrality and peace among the rising nations.
Although hundreds of years have passed since Feroz's Ban fell, the lifespan of dwarven wizards on Ulgrotha is unknown, leaving a possibility that Baki is still alive.
