Formerly part of Malpiri Plains

The Balduvian Steppe is a vast series of rocky plains due north of Karplusan Mountains on the continent of Terisiare on the plane of Dominaria.

Description[ | ]

The rich and fertile soil of the Balduvian Steppe makes this region the breadbasket of New Argive.[1] In the northwest lies the cluster of mountains known as the Flarg, infamous for its goblins, while in the northeast lie the ruins of Kor Haven, a remnant from the Rathi Overlay. The snowy slopes of Kaelor and the canyons of Bandu lie on opposite sides of each other on the Steppes.[2]

History[ | ]

After the Dark Age, this region replaced the former Malpiri Plains.[3]

The steppe was once home to Balduvian barbarians during the time of the Ice Age on Terisiare. After the Flooding of Terisiare, much of the land in the southwest of the steppe was covered by the Sea of Laments, making it into a peninsula.

During the Rathi Overlay, the steppes became home to displaced kor, who eventually adopted Balduvia's berserker ways.[4]

Modern inhabitants of the steppe are farmers or herders, though even the humblest home usually incorporates at least one powerstone shard, which can power tools of the trade such as blacksmith's forges, miller's grindstones, or farmer's churns.[1]

During the second Phyrexian invasion of Dominaria, Shanid was dispatched to the steppe to root out sleeper agents. An extremely paranoid and ruthless knight, Shanid left a trail of burned villages in his wake.[5]
