Battle for Zendikar has one event deck, named Ultimate Sacrifice.[1]
Description[ | ]
Combining the ready-made-to-sacrifice Eldrazi Scions with several powerful cards from Tarkir block and Magic Origins, this deck can create a horde of token creatures capable of burying the opponent in combat, fueling powerful spells, or feeding larger creatures.
Playing the deck[ | ]
The "Ultimate Sacrifice" deck fully realized the potential of Eldrazi Scions, creating a horde of token creatures capable of burying the opponent in combat, fueling powerful spells, or feeding larger creatures. Sacrificing your brood may seem cruel, but the end justifies the means when that end is crushing your opponent.
You should spend your first few turns deploying creatures that can leverage your Scion army. Eldrazi like Blisterpod and Eyeless Watcher will fill the board with tokens, providing Zulaport Cutthroat and Rot Shambler the fodder they need. You can also put Vampiric Rites and Evolutionary Lean onto the battlefield early on and reap the rewards all game long, converting your doomed Scions into additional cards.
It should be easy to put a swarm of small creatures onto the battlefield, but you'll still need a plan for breaking through larger ones. Rot Shambler, Nantuko Husk, and Corpseweft can all overwhelm opposing creatures, turning the tables on your opponent. If you're struggling against opposing blockers, Rogue's Passage can be an invaluable tool for delivering the final blow.
Many of your most powerful cards are at their best in the later turns. You should wait to cast your Grim Haruspex and Smothering Abomination until you have multiple creatures already on the battlefield. This way, you'll be able to benefit immediately from any creatures you're able to sacrifice. Tasigur, the Golden Fang is one of your best creatures in a long game thanks to its size and ability to convert extra mana into extra resources. When you cast it, avoid delving your creature cards if possible to preserve them for Corpseweft and Tasigur's ability.
Your sideboard is equipped to counter opposing strategies. Against decks that attack you quickly, Jaddi Offshoot regains lost life and block, buying you time. As long as your opponent isn't playing exclusively devoid or multicolored creatures, Ultimate Price is an efficient removal spell. You've got answers to non-creature spells as well --Duress can force your opponent to discard them, and Caustic Caterpillar will destroy any artifacts or enchantments in your way. If your opponent depends upon his or her graveyard, shuffle it away with Cranial Archive.
Think about your opponent's plays in the first game during sideboarding. For example, if your opponent doesn't cast many creatures, remove your Bone Splinters for a more effective card.
If you're interested in modifying the deck to focus more on Eldrazi Scions, there are plenty of options in the Battle for Zendikar set. From Beyond generates even more Scion tokens, which in turn helps the massive Deathless Behemoth keep returning to the battlefield from the graveyard. If you're looking to resurrect your fallen creatures, then Liliana, Heretical Healer from the Magic Origins set would make a powerful addition to the deck.
