Bernatheen, a Wizard Savant on the Floating Island, played a pivotal role in the events surrounding Eron the Relentless. Bernatheen's manipulative nature was evident when he persuaded Eron to steal a spellbook from Grandmother Sengir’s library. Bernatheen’s promise to cast a powerful spell in exchange for this theft led to Eron's immortality, although this bargain ultimately brought severe consequences for Bernatheen himself.[1]
Bernatheen's decision to involve Eron in the theft demonstrated his cunning and willingness to exploit others to achieve his goals. However, this action did not go unnoticed by Baron Sengir. As punishment for his transgressions, Bernatheen was transformed into a greater werewolf by the Baron. This transformation marked a drastic change in Bernatheen's life, stripping him of his former identity as a respected Wizard Savant and thrusting him into a cursed existence.
Living on the Floating Island, Bernatheen had been part of a thriving community centered around the Wizards' School established by Feroz. The island, despite its misleading name, was a stable and crucial hub for magic and trade, thanks to Feroz's interventions. Bernatheen's betrayal of trust within this community and his subsequent downfall highlighted the dangers of ambition and deceit in a world governed by powerful magical entities. The position of Wizard Savant would later pass to the dwarf, Reveka.
His transformation into a werewolf not only served as a punishment but also as a symbol of the corrupting influence of dark magic and the perilous consequences of crossing those in power. Bernatheen's story became a cautionary tale within the rich lore of Ulgrotha, illustrating the delicate balance between ambition and ethics in the realm of magic.
