Blaze counters are a type of counter that deals damage based on different conditions representing fire.
Description[ | ]
Obsidian Fireheart from Zendikar is the first creature to produce blaze counters. The counters are placed on lands by the Elemental via an Activated ability. Lands with the counters deal damage to their controlling player at the beginning of their upkeep. This represents the land is on fire. The counters continue existing on the lands even after the creature that spawned them is gone from the battlefield. The counter being moved from the land causes the damage to cease and does not transfer the ability to another land even if the counter is on it. The ability only works when the counter is placed by the elemental. Multiple blaze counters also do not increase the damage.
Five-Alarm Fire from Gatecrash is the first enchantment to produce blaze counters. In this case, the counters are placed on the Enchantment itself whenever a creature under the player's control deals damage. They act as a resource for an ability to deal 5 damage to a creature or player consuming 5 counters on it per use.
Trivia[ | ]
- In Magic Online, Blaze counters are always orange due to thematic reasons representing the color of fire despite it normally being the color of negative effect counters and they share their icon with Flame, Fury, Fuse, Shred, Spite and Strife counters.[1]
