Bosco is an ambitious floor mopper of the Orzhov guild. He is short, thin-lipped, with black hair that seems even darker against his pale skin. At the time of the running of the Implicit Maze, he was in his early twenties.
History[ | ]
Bosco had worked for the Orzhov for years scrubbing steps, polishing brass, and mopping floors, paying the Basilica Guards money for entry with each new job, and being accosted by enforcer Jozica's Dutiful Thrull, demanding even more coins from him as a "mopper tax". Bosco was sick of it all, but he had plans. He was making connections and would soon make his mark.
He later told his friend Drovo that he was five centuries in debt to the Orzhov, for their protection, benefits, stability, and opportunities, which required a substantial buy-in. He showed Drovo his bag of gold and fine Orzhov attire which even lowly moppers were given and compared that to his own former and Drovo's current guildless state, which is the lowliest of all places to be in Ravnica. Having succeeded in sparking Drovo's interest, Bosco set about recruiting him to a mission.
Later, Bosco was in the high prelate's office with enforcer Jozica, signing a new contract that would erase years of his debt and give him a promotion.
In the night, Bosco brought Drovo to the guild. They snuck in through a Rogue's Passage, revealed by pulling on a sconce, then stealthily hurried down some stairs and across the empty halls nearby without being spotted, then entered the Orzhov mausoleum beyond. Bosco pulled out a large iron key and unlocked a door to a chamber beyond, impressing Drovo with his preparedness. Beyond the door lay the two sarcophagi full of treasure. But before they could open them, Bosco locked the door behind Drovo and apologized to him.
Black smoke rose from one of the sarcophagi, coalescing into large, hanging swaths of tattered cloth surrounded by a circle of masks that rotated around a skeletal figure. The masks rotated around the cowled figure faster, creating a moaning sound as a grim skeletal face manifested. It dripped fetid water and focused its eyeless sockets on Drovo, who hacked at the door like a caged beast. It was a Crypt Ghast. It smelled the blood on Drovo and attacked.
Later, Bosco was reporting back to the high prelate, his mission a success. The ghast had been fed, and Bosco had been promoted to a mission runner for the high prelate, earning years off his debt and a bag of coin besides for having calmed the dread spirit in the mausoleum. On his way out, gold in hand, Bosco took a look at enforcer Jozica and realized he was no longer afraid of her.
