Brandt was a vampire hunter on Innistrad who had Strefan Maurer as his prime target for years.
Description[ | ]
Brandt was a seasoned vampire hunter, driven by a deep-seated hatred and determination to eradicate the undead, particularly targeting Strefan Maurer. Despite his old age and mortal limitations, Brandt was relentless in his pursuit, characterized by a strong belief in holy symbols and divine protection. His unyielding faith and cunning led him to devise elaborate traps, believing that the power of the blessed items and his meticulous planning would be sufficient to overcome his formidable foe.
History[ | ]
In a climactic confrontation, Brandt managed to lure Strefan Maurer into a pit lined with wooden stakes, almost fatally wounding the vampire. However, Strefan survived and, after a struggle, escaped the pit, injuring Brandt in the process. A desperate chase ensued, with Brandt on horseback and Strefan in pursuit. Despite Brandt’s best efforts to fend off the vampire, his horse eventually collapsed, forcing him to flee on foot to a nearby ruin.
In a final, unexpected twist, Brandt, realizing he could not defeat Strefan through conventional means, slits his own throat, sacrificing himself in a bid to trap Strefan in the ruin. His blood seeped into the stones, transforming the dilapidated structure into a nightmarish mansion that trapped Strefan within its walls. Inside, Strefan faced eerie manifestations and supernatural entities that preyed on his fears and memories.
Brandt's body, reanimated by an unknown entity called the Hladvora, continued to haunt Strefan, driving him to exhaustion and desperation. The vampire found himself repeatedly disoriented and tormented by the mansion's illusions, realizing too late that Brandt's true trap was not the staked pit, but this supernatural prison. The story concludes with Strefan barely escaping the house, but his final fate is uncertain, thus possibly achieving Brandt’s final vengeance.[1]
