Breeches, Brazen Plunderer is a goblin member of the Brazen Coalition on Ixalan, who served on Vraska's Belligerent.[1][2][3]
Description[ | ]
Breeches is a blue-furred goblin with gold eyes.[4][5] An explosives expert, he carries blasters and three knives — one for each hand and a third for his prehensile tail, and wears a tricorn hat.[6] Breeches is rarely seen away from his best friend, the siren pirate Malcolm Lee.[7]
He carries a firearm that he acquired in High and Dry as payment for a debt.[8] It is a metal tube about the length of a forearm, with an elaborate vine pattern etched in the surface, a jutting leaf for a trigger, and flower petals molded to the end. Smoke and sparks billow from the back of the tube, and when triggered, an enormous ball of molten fire sprays from the barrel, causing significant recoil.
History[ | ]
Race for Orazca[ | ]
The goblin pirate is well known for his gunnery talents, skill in knot-tying, and expertise in yelling.[9] His willingness to chant enthusiastically at top volume about anything, at any time, for any reason, is the stuff of legends. While his recent journey to Orazca to steal the Immortal Sun was unsuccessful in achieving its main goal, he and his fellow pirates of Vraska's Belligerent's subsequent pillage of the Golden City proved to be tremendously profitable. Breeches and his friend Malcolm Lee have become big wheels among the Brazen Coalition.
Lost Caverns of Ixalan[ | ]
In 5 Dawn Era, Ripley Vance asked Malcolm and Breeches to investigate disappearances in the mining town of Downtown, which was under the Coalition's control.[4] Upon arrival, they found the town deserted. Delving into its mines with seven others, they were attacked by corpses of various miners and creatures animated by mycoids, before coming face to face with the entity that controlled them, the Mycotyrant.[10] Using Malcolm's hypnotic song, the duo escaped, delving further underground and luring the mycoids through Matzalantli to Ixalan's Core, where a pitched battle was taking place between Huatli's expedition party and vampire heretics led by Vito.[11] Eventually, Breeches destroyed the Mycotyrant with a powerful firearm, causing its subordinate mycoids to collapse.[8] Malcolm and Breeches left the caverns, Malcolm intending to give his report before drinking his memories of the incident away.
After the pair returned to High and Dry, they were contacted by Vraska, who was thought to have been compleated and died in the Phyrexian Invasion. They were overjoyed to see her alive. She and Jace had a plot involving an ancient vault on the plane of Thunder Junction, which had been newly connected to the Multiverse via the Omenpaths, and asked for Breeches and Malcolm's help, to which they agreed.
Thunder Junction[ | ]
On Thunder Junction, Jace, disguised as Ashiok, had hired Oko to put together a band of outlaws from across the Multiverse to raid the vault. Breeches joined the team as an explosives expert, and to secretly support Vraska, who had set herself up to be hired by Oko as well.[5]
The gang obtained a key to the vault but didn't know where to use it, so they decided to kidnap the archaeologist Nolan from a train and have him tell them what they knew.[12] Breeches played an essential role in the operation, as they planned to stop the train by exploding a bridge that it was to pass over, and Breeches provided explosive expertise. However, Gisa Cecani did not follow the plan, and the train almost hurtled over the destroyed bridge with most of its passengers still inside. Kellan was able to slow the train enough for its passengers to escape before it was destroyed.
Eventually, the team managed to secure the vault's key, and Oko opened it for Jace and Vraska.[13] Jace revealed himself and secured his prize, a young creature named Loot. However, he set off a trap that would cause the vault to collapse. With Kellan's backup, the team made it out safely. After Vraska's role in the job was complete, Breeches and Malcolm left the plane.
