Cacophony was briefly the God of Dark Cities, created by Ashiok's schemes and unmade by Ephara.
History[ | ]
Cacophony was given life by the nightmares of the citizens of the polis. Citizens such as Euneas, Pollio, and Melantha each had their dreams of their city become warped and corrupted into a terror unknown. It was Ashiok who masterminded the dark dreams of the polis, aided by Phenax, who made them invisible to the other gods' eyes.
As each citizen awoke with a scream, the city itself dreamt, while Ashiok nursed its collective nightmares into being, commanding the new god to arise and awaken. There was another world to grasp. And, so Cacophony, the god of cities, arose. It looked around at the little humans clinging to its body, hairy ape creatures that infested it everywhere. It saw their hunger and their fear, and it was happy. Cacophony reached out with its newly formed hands and grabbed thousands of the hairy ape creatures, crushing them and flinging their corpses to the ground below. It would not destroy all of the apes, just some, just enough for the survivors to live their little ape lives in agony and fear.
But then Ephara's voice boomed over it. It was the second voice the newly awakened god heard that day. Ephara's eyes, star-filled orbs, dimmed and turned red as she looked at Cacophony. Affronted by the dark city's god's existence, Ephara challenged the mortal responsible for this atrocity to reveal themselves. She could not see the mortal, but she knew it was there, somewhere, and she would destroy it when she found it.
As she spoke, Ephara extended her hands, plunging them into Cacophony. She told Cacophony that it should no more exist than a finger separated from its hand. Her voice sounded almost kind, at the end, when she bid the little god goodbye.
Cacophony did not know what was happening, could not understand why its life was draining, its awareness slumbering. As it fell back into non-existence, the city-dream once known as Cacophony never had a moment with enough coherence to know regret.
Cacophony, the god of cities dark, never woke again.
