Race Demigod
Formerly Human
Birthplace Meletis, Theros
Lifetime Born centuries ago, reborn as a demigod in the Mending Era

Callaphe the Mariner was a human trickster from Meletis who sailed a ship called The Monsoon. Now she is Thassa's chosen demigod.

Age of Heroes[ | ]

Callaphe was the most skilled mariner to ever sail the seas. She was also the first mortal to decipher the secret patterns of the winds (thus provoking Thassa’s ire), and is also said to have snuck into Mount Velus to steal Purphoros's tears, written down the secrets of Phenax, and raced Thassa over the waterfall edge of the world and sailed into Nyx to claim her place among the stars. Her adventures are recounted in the epic poem known as The Callapheia.[1]

Theros Beyond Death[ | ]

When Heliod instructed his champion, Daxos, to remove all trace of the other gods from the city of Meletis, Thassa and the other gods, refusing to stand for such an affront, called upon their own champions from the Underworld and made them demigods.

In life, Callaphe has gained Thassa's respect by outmaneuvering her krakens, and because of that respect, Thassa chose Callaphe as her champion.[2]

Inspiration[ | ]

Callaphe's exploits mirror that of Odysseus, letting her encounter the Sirens (Cloaked Siren) and Polyphemus (Nyxborn Brute).

In contrast to Odysseus, however, Callaphe earned the respect and favor of the sea god.
