A card type is a characteristic that each Magic: the Gathering card has. Non-traditional Magic cards and tokens also have card types. Each card type has its own rules for how objects with that type are played, cast, or otherwise handled during gameplay. The following are card types:

Some objects may have more than one card type (e.g., artifact creature, tribal enchantment). Additionally, cards may have supertypes or subtypes. Spells and abilities can assign or remove card types. Emblems do not have card types at all.

Type icons

Future Sight sported specific type icons for different card types. If the card had a single card type, this icon indicateed what it is: claw marks for creature, a flame for sorcery, a lightning bolt for instant, a sunrise for enchantment, a chalice for artifact, and a pair of mountain peaks for land. If the card had multiple card types, that was indicated by a black and white cross. [1]

Obsolete

The "Interrupt" and "Mana Source" basetypes are now obsolete and no longer used, having been incorporated into the Instant type.
