Carlo was a human avenger pilot from Kroog during the time of the Brothers' War.
History[ | ]
Carlo was a young pilot from Kroog's River Wards. He had been training as an Avenger pilot, preparing for a time when his skills would be put to the test. That day came abruptly when Kroog faced a dire assault by Mishra's forces, which included devastating dragon engines — massive automatons capable of breathing fire. As the Fall of Kroog unfolded, Carlo and his fellow cadets were thrust into action. The urgency of the situation saw them promoted to full pilots and assigned to advanced sword-pattern avengers. Carlo, along with Sanwell and Rica, was to take part in a counterattack aimed at buying time for evacuations and defending the city.[2]
In the chaos of battle, Carlo struggled with fear and anxiety as he faced the reality of combat. His fear intensified when a massive dragon engine roared through the city, its fiery breath wreaking havoc. During a harrowing encounter, the dragon engine obliterated a defensive barricade and its defenders, including fellow pilots and soldiers. The sight of the destruction left Carlo in a state of panic. Despite the intense pressure, he was guided by Sanwell and Rica to move through a side street in an attempt to flank the enemy.[2]
Their efforts were met with more disaster when the dragon engine's fiery onslaught incinerated the barricade and its defenders. Amid the chaos and loss, Carlo's fear escalated to screaming. As the trio retreated into an alley to escape the advancing enemy forces, they faced an overwhelming sense of futility and despair. Carlo's mental state deteriorated under the immense pressure. As they retreated, Sanwell and Rica grappled with their dire situation, realizing that fighting the dragon engine was beyond their means. Their immediate goal was to escape, but their options were limited, and the looming threat of the Fallaji army made their escape even more urgent. Despite their efforts, the Fallaji troops advanced, overwhelming their defenses with a brutal onslaught.[2]
Carlo, catatonic with fear, did not participate in the battle against the Fallaji, and his machine, Sword Three, did not engage effectively and was soon rendered inactive. As the battle intensified, the Fallaji's superior numbers and firepower proved too much for the defenders. Sanwell and Rica watched in horror as their Avengers, including Carlo's, were progressively dismantled. In the heat of the battle, Carlo was gravely injured, suffering severe burns. Despite the imminent chaos and danger, he crawled toward Sanwell and Rica, shouting for help. This caused the Fallaji to find him through the smoke, and Carlo was struck down by crossbow bolts before he could be saved.[2]
