Description[ | ]
Dawn is a determined and resourceful young woman. She is inventive, creating detectors and traps to help protect her community from the House’s many dangers.[1] Like other members of her community, she was named after a concept that no longer exists on Duskmourn. Having never seen a dawn herself, Dawn does not know the difference between a dawn and a sunset.
History[ | ]
Around 4564 AR, Dawn was contemplating her desire to leave the carnival for good when she spotted the returning foragers Rill, Sunset, and City.[1] Concerned about their injuries, she questioned them about what had happened. Dawn noticed City's odd behavior and felt a growing unease, which only deepened when he revealed his allegiance to the Cult of Valgavoth. As the Carnival fell into chaos, with Duskmourn’s monsters breaching the fence, Dawn realized the truce was over, and the safe zone was no longer safe. She turned and ran, desperate to find a way to escape the impending destruction, leaving her injured friends and the traitor behind.
Dawn found temporary refuge in an attic safe zone, where she had a nightmare about City catching her.[2] Despite distrust from other survivors, she worked on inventions to defend against the House's creatures. Suddenly, an attack left the encampment silent, and she heard City's voice offering her a dangerous choice: join their cult or face death. He then left her without attacking. Dawn ventured away from the fallen safe zone, battling a glitch ghost with a device she had built. Just as her battery died, she was pulled to safety by a group of survivors called the Benefactors, who welcomed her into their circle.
