Dennick Betzold was a human soldier, and a son of bishop Worrin Betzold. After his death he became a spirit soldier. He was a native of Gavony, Innistrad.

History[ | ]

The Betzold household was once one of the most influential families in Gavony. The most recent patriarch, Worrin Betzold had a secret: an illegitimate son named Dennick. While Dennick grew up sequestered from his family, he was able to have a relationship with his father. From a young age, Dennick was obsessed with becoming a cathar that protects the people. Listening, Worrin presented him with an elaborate shield on his birthday. The next day, The Travails began, and every trace of the Betzold name was wiped out. Dennick's desire to protect lingered even in death, and he remains in this world as a spirit. He haunts the streets of Gavony, shield raised, ready to protect the innocent.[1]

Midnight Hunt[ | ]

Arlinn Kord, Teferi, Chandra Nalaar, Kaya, Adeline and a group of Cathars will search Thraben for clues to the whereabouts of the Moonsilver Key. Kaya finds an old book showing that the Key was given to an ancestor of the Betzold family by a warlock. Arlinn and Adeline knew a bishop named Worrin Betzold and who belongs to this family, and end up finding him among the zombie army that Liliana Vess dropped in the midst of the ruins of Thraben (after the sealing of Emrakul). Bishop Worrin Betzold had become a zombie during the events of The Travails. Arlinn and his companions manage to get the name Dannick from the bishop. They go to Gavony looking for clues about the Betzold family (who might possibly have the Key). Arriving at the ruined mansion of the Betzold family, they encounter the spirit of Dannick. Dannick tells that he was the bishop's son and reveals that his great-grandfather gave the Key to the vampire Sorin Markov, in order to protect the key. Now the Key would be in the Markov Manor.[2]
