oracle:"Devotion counter"

Devotion counters are a type of counter introduced in Champions of Kamigawa. They gave bonus effects when another creature or creature type was in play representing a creature's devotion to another.

Description[ | ]

Devotion counters first appeared on Pious Kitsune and Bloodthirsty Ogre in Champions of Kamigawa. For Pious Kitsune they are created on each upkeep and act as a resource for an ability that gives life. They also have an additional effect representing the 'devotion' aspect of the counter in that if Eight-and-a-Half-Tails is in play then each upkeep the player gains life for each counter. For Bloodthirsty Ogre, it has an activated ability to create the devotion counts while another gives a creature -1/-1 until the end of the turn but only if the player controls a Demon. This acts as the creature's devotion to demons.
