Doctor is a creature class introduced in the Universes Beyond set Doctor Who.[1] It is a title used to represent one of the most notable members of the Time Lord species, who goes by the alias and title "The Doctor". It is also used to represent modern physicians in settings where flavorfully appropriate in place of Cleric.[2]

Description[ | ]

The creature class was originally used for cards that depict the many versions of "The Doctor" from the Doctor Who franchise. It was originally paired with the Time Lord race though it was left open to show up in other sets in the future.[3][4] This later happened with Fallout which introduced the first non-Time Lord Doctor with Arcade Gannon and in-universe with Cult Healer in Duskmourn: House of Horror.

The Doctor's Companion mechanic allows a Companion to pair up with The Doctor as a Commander. Doctor's Companion only works with creatures that are exactly (and not anything in addition to) Time Lord Doctor.[5][6]

Older cards that would be eligible for an errata of their type line are: Grim Physician, Hua Tuo, Honored Physician, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Cabal Surgeon, Field Surgeon and Surgeon General Commander.

Lore[ | ]

“The Doctor” was the main alias used by a mysterious traveler of both space and time, seemingly a renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. Their chosen alias is a title embodying their promise to the universe. The Doctor adventured with numerous companions in an obsolete and "borrowed" TARDIS. They have been often called "the universe's greatest defender", having saved the cosmos thousands of times across a long life. In the process, they have become both a legend throughout the universe and a complicated space-time event of unparalleled complexity.
