The Duel Decks: Mirrodin Pure vs New Phyrexia was released as a Magic Online exclusive product on January 11, 2013.[2] It tied into the the finale of the Scars of Mirrodin block, which was advertised as to be either Mirrodin Pure or New Phyrexia.[3][4][5]

The Duel Decks announcement was also a competition where any MTG community member could send in a decklist representing a faction.

  • When working on Mystery Booster 2, Gavin included a physical reprint of the Duel Decks: Mirrodin Pure vs. New Phyrexia Spawning Pit as an homage to his first official Magic product.[7][8]
