Echo counters are a type of counter introduced in Mirage. They are used as a marker for an ability that allows them to essentially take the place of 1 damage that would have been dealt to a player.

Description[ | ]

Echo counters first appeared on Soul Echo in Mirage. It is an enchantment that enters the battlefield with Echo counters equal to its additional mana cost. The enchantment makes it so the player does not lose the game for having 0 life and allows for an opponent to choose to remove a counter from it in place of dealing 1 damage to the player. The counters represent an echo of the player that absorbs some damage being dealt against them.

Trivia[ | ]

In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and it shares an icon with Awakening, Glyph, and Luck counters.[1]
