Enrage is a triggered ability word introduced in Ixalan as the signature mechanic for the Dinosaurs of the Sun Empire.[2][3]
Description[ | ]
Enrage gives an advantageous effect when the creature with the ability is dealt damage. It appears exclusively in red, white and green, with the exception of Indoraptor, the Perfect Hybrid.[4][5]
History[ | ]
After its introduction in Ixalan, Enrage was also featured in Rivals of Ixalan[6] and Commander 2019, and made one-off appearances in Jurassic World Collection, Alchemy: Ixalan, and Fallout.
Rulings[ | ]
- If multiple sources deal damage to a creature with an enrage ability at the same time, most likely because multiple creatures blocked that creature, the enrage ability triggers only once.
- If lethal damage is dealt to a creature with an enrage ability, that ability triggers. The creature with that enrage ability leaves the battlefield before that ability resolves, so it won't be affected by the resolving ability.

Trivia[ | ]
- Fungusaur, from Alpha, functionally has enrage. With the release of Ixalan, it was officially given the Dinosaur creature type.
- Illusory Ambusher, Hornet Nest, High Priest of Penance, Boros Reckoner, Spitemare, Deep-Slumber Titan, Stuffy Doll, Phyrexian Obliterator , Reaper of Sheoldred, Nested Ghoul, Belltower Sphinx Sprouting Phytohydra, Coalhauler Swine, Dromad Purebred, Kami of the Honored Dead, Wall of Hope, Broodhatch Nantuko, Saber Ants, and Mogg Maniac all also have functional Enrage, with various effects.
- Firedrinker Satyr, Jackal Pup, Shinka Gatekeeper, Thrashing Mudspawn, Filthy Cur, Volatile Rig, Phyrexian Negator, Grollub, Crag Saurian technically have Enrage, but all of these have negative effects to their controller. The first five on the list all have effectively the same downside (damage taken by the creature is also dealt to the controller).
- Nine other creatures functionally have Enrage printed after the release of Ixalan: Hungering Hydra, Truefire Captain, Sporeweb Weaver, Brash Taunter, Spiteful Sliver, Body of Knowledge, Flumph, Zalto, Fire Giant Duke, and Ill-Tempered Loner.
- Enrage was originally planned as the Gruul guild mechanic for Ravnica Allegiance, but was taken by Ixalan (The rule in R&D is that earlier sets trump later sets for mechanics).[4][7]
- Provoke the Trolls has an unusual clause that grants its target +5/+0 if it survives, as though giving its target an Enrage ability.
