Ghalta, "the predator's appetite,"[1] is an elder dinosaur from Ixalan.

History[ | ]

The opening of the golden city revealed the enormous elder dinosaurs, which were held in stasis during Orazca's long hibernation in the earth. Each of these monsters embodies one aspect of the magic of the land: the giant tyrant Ghalta is a manifestation of green mana and the consuming hunger of nature.[2]

Phyrexian Invasion[ | ]

During New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, Ghalta and the other Elder Dinosaurs were summoned by Huatli to battle the intruders.[1]

After being summoned, Ghalta cut loose among the remaining Phyrexian ranks. Seeing an opportunity, Mavren Fein commanded his legionnaires to follow in the elder dinosaur's wake. Any Phyrexians that managed to dodge or survive Ghalta's rampage found themselves set upon by vicious vampire conquistadors. Casualties ran high, but by taking advantage of the chaos left in Ghalta's wake, Mavren was able to deal some serious damage to the invaders.[3]
