Grigori was regularly tasked with collecting his and his mother's blood to meet the vampire Olivia Voldaren's decree demanding a nightly blood tithe from each resident. Grigori's mother, broken by the events surrounding the eternal night and the massacre, had not awoken for weeks. Grigori dutifully collected her blood, reflecting on their past and the grim present of their world.
