History[ | ]
Gulsen was a resilient, faithful, and authoritative leader in Onella. Her unwavering belief in Serra and her extensive responsibilities as an abbey matron positioned her as a key figure in maintaining the community's spiritual and social fabric. Despite Serra's prolonged absence (due to her death, which was unknown in Ulgrotha), Gulsen firmly believed in Serra's lingering influence and protection, as seen in her conviction that the abbey gargoyles still watched over the city.[1]
Gulsen's hope and optimism were evident in her frequent references to Serra’s eventual return, which she believed would bring salvation and order. Gulsen’s responsibilities as an abbey matron were extensive, including enforcing laws, settling disputes, and ensuring the well-being of the community. Her role in bureaucratic councils and daily governance highlighted her significant influence.[2]
Gulsen was also realistic and pragmatic, aware of the doubts about Serra’s return. Her steadfastness in the face of such doubts demonstrated her resilience and commitment to her faith and duties. She did express worry about the results of the death of the abbot Hazduhr should Serra fail to return to elect a new abbot. What ultimately happened to the church of Serra on Ulgrotha is unknown.
Given that hundreds of years have passed since her natural lifetime, it it is likely that Gulsen is long dead.
