lore:"Kamiz" |
The cephalid Kamiz is the former Obscura spymaster in New Capenna.
Description[ | ]
Kamiz served as Raffine's right hand and Queza's mentor. Nothing goes on in the city without her knowing it, and nothing is published in the papers without her supplying the rumors.[1] She's got every citizen in her back pocket, and they don't even know her name.
The bioluminescent markings around her eyes pulse blue-green. She wears a navy trench coat embellished with gold, a throat amulet to report visions, and a rune in her ear to receive updates. She warded the Cloud Spire, Raffine's headquarters.
History[ | ]
Kamiz started off trying to be a journalist until she found out every paper was printing complete bunk at the command of whichever clients had the deepest pockets.[2] Always the bookish type, she never took to reporting anyway. The interview subjects always gave her funny looks, what with those glowing blue eyes of hers. She was downright sick of the stares.
So she signed up with the Obscura with the promise that she could do her job out of sight from prying eyes. On her very first assignment, she got her spies to blackmail a corrupt politician into stepping down from office. Worked her way up the organization quickly after that. Shot right to the top after she invented a spell that let her see through walls. Not long after, she ran the whole Obscura network, gathering information from the sewers to the skyscrapers.[3]
Kamiz and her apprentice, Queza, explored New Capenna to investigate disturbing prophetic visions from fortune-tellers. At Tivit’s shop, they found the seer in distress, overwhelmed by a chaotic vision involving cryptic imagery like "kittens hiding the cream" and halos, signaling an impending crisis. Kamiz realized this was an attack, not just a random vision. The spellcasters involved were killed in an explosion at a warehouse, and reporter Lacey Lanine had her memory erased. The attack used stolen Halo — a powerful substance taken from the Cabaretti. [2]
As Kamiz and Queza unraveled the clues, they discovered that the Cabaretti, who created Halo, was being manipulated to spread panic and misinformation. Their investigation led to Broker Lagrella, who aimed to use the chaos to further her doomsday prophecy agenda. Kamiz faced challenges as she saved Queza from a collapsing building during their confrontation with Lagrella. They uncovered that the vision was a deception meant to destabilize the city, not a genuine angelic message.
Kamiz confronted Raffine with the truth that the visions and angelic involvement were false. Her dedication to protecting New Capenna was reaffirmed as she faced the reality of her mistaken assumptions and the deception that clouded her judgment.[2]
Siding with the Adversary in his revolt against the families, she was wounded by Jinnie Fay after attempting an ambush following the Crescendo attack.[4]
During New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, Kamiz was part of the resistance.[5]
