Kodolaag is a demon, part of the Cult of Rakdos. He's also the husband of the human Zita.
Description[ | ]
Kodoldaag, a demon of Ravnica, cuts an intimidating figure. His skin is a deep, smoldering red, accentuated by intricate black tattoos that seem to shift and writhe as if alive. He stands tall with a muscular build, his body adorned with various piercings that dangle with iron mace balls. His horns are prominent and sharp, curving menacingly upward from his forehead. His eyes burn with a fierce intensity, betraying a mind as sharp as his claws.
Kodolaag's personality is a volatile mix of bravado and vulnerability. Despite his fearsome appearance and the aura of danger that surrounds him, he often finds himself flustered and awkward, especially around Zita, the human effigy mage he is infatuated with. His usual confidence falters, revealing a more tender side that contrasts sharply with his otherwise ruthless demeanor. As a performer in the Rakdos guild, he channels his anger and frustration into his art, using his acts of violence and dark humor as a form of catharsis
History[ | ]
Kodolaag spotted Zita through the windows of her effigy shop, painting faces onto miniature skulls. Desperate to talk to her and under threat from his friend Olrich to bring home her name instead of another effigy, he crossed the street amidst the chaos of the previous night's festivities and entered the shop, ignoring an old Azorius man shouting insults and promoting a rehabilitation center.
Inside, Kodolaag admired Zita's dolls, feeling their magic. Zita, half her face painted red, approached and asked if she could help. Kodolaag stammered, bought a doll and charcoal stick, and struggled to remind her of their past party encounters. A customer interrupted them briefly, but Kodolaag finally managed to invite Zita to the Mockturne. She declined, however, busy with Ragefest and cautious of new laws against effigy magic.
Determined to help, Kodolaag used blight parchment to torment the old man outside to make him run away, but Zita was unimpressed. He promised to help her sell her dolls at the Mockturne. With Olrich's help, they secured a spot. Despite initial resistance, the crowd warmed up during Kodolaag's performance, but an Azorius arrester halted the show's mood with his law magic.
Later, Kodolaag helped Zita carry her dolls home. They encountered a vice parade, and Kodolaag impressed her with an impromptu act. They shared a meal, and Zita praised his skills. Just as they connected, an Azorius soldier arrested Zita for a minor offense of graffiti modification. Kodolaag's defense only incriminated her further. She vanished, bound by Azorius' magic.
Determined to rescue Zita, Kodolaag, and Olrich visited Lucinka, a fallen Azorius precognition mage. She provided them with a box of items for their mission, instructing them to visit Udzec and follow her instructions. At Udzec, they disguised Olrich as an infant to smuggle in the bloodfray amulet. Using distraction and deception, they managed to meet Zita and used makeshift blight parchment to disable the guards.
Kodolaag and Zita escaped amidst the chaos, but Kodolaag and Olrich were called out by Jitka Wothis, caught, and imprisoned. At the worksite for a new prison, Kodolaag devised a plan. Using the bloodfray amulet, he incited a massive riot, freeing thousands of prisoners. The archons arrived too late to stop the chaos.
Reuniting with Zita and Olrich, they sought refuge with Lucinka. She informed them they could never return to their old lives. Instead, they would form a new troupe in the undercity, using their skills to entertain and protect their new community. Despite the uncertainty, Kodolaag found hope in his bond with Zita, looking forward to a new future together, and Lucinka even predicted their future marriage.
