Kwaro was an aven veteran, a sentinel of Arashin, and Khan Anafenza's loyal captain of the guard in Tarkir's original timeline. It is unknown if he exists in Tarkir's new timeline.

Description[ | ]

When Anafenza became Khan of the Abzan, Kwaro had taken to his new position as captain of the guard most eagerly. He had led her honor guard in battle while she was a general of the Abzan army, and despite her protests, he insisted on maintaining formalities with the new khan. Every time he addressed her, it was either prefaced or punctuated by "my khan." Anafenza found it endearing, to a certain degree.

History[ | ]

As the ceremony of having all the clan houses swear allegiance to her was drawing close, Kwaro attended to Anafenza while she stood in the branches of the First Tree, giving her the report that all the house leaders were ready to be received by her, including that of her cousin Oret's. Kwaro was then sent to invite the house leaders one by one up to the Khan's dais, leaving Oret for last. When Oret was shown in, they waited until he recognized her. As he paled in fear, Gvar Barzeel stepped up and forced Oret to his knees.

Anafenza stepped down and put her sword to the throat of the man who had betrayed her, murdered her entire family, and destroyed her home. Her cousin, who had become prosperous in the ashes of their kin. He pleaded with her, saying he was the last family she had, but she cut the side of his face with her blade. Performing a blood rite, she blended his blood with her own and dripped into the fires of a brazier, and before the First Tree and the eyes of their ancestors, she disowned him. He was no longer of her blood, and she declared him her enemy. If they should meet on the battlefield, he would not leave it. Your spirit will be rootless, wandering alone in agony for all time. Then she bid her brother Gvar to show the traitor out.
