The Lagonna Band is a collection of centaur merchant families on Theros, different from the more violent Pheres Band raiders. They are consistent allies of the Humans, typically handling trade between the poleis, especially Meletis and Setessa.

Structure[]

Near Meletis are the Lagonna Grounds, which serve as the main hub of travel and trade for the centaur band. They also frequent the Nessian Wood.[1]

Guri[]

The Lagonna are made up of small merchant families called guri.[1] So far, only two guri (the Maiand and the Surm) have been named in canon.[2]

Roles[]

Each Lagonna centaur member takes up a role in their guros:

  • Barterers — liaisons between guros and trade clients.[2] They are often more knowledgeable of non-centaur cultures.[1]
  • Coursers — explores of new trade routes and territories.[2][1]
  • Elders — the heads of each guros. Some have only one elder, who has the final say on clan-related decisions,[2] whereas others have multiple elders that decide as a group.[1]
  • Gatherers — foragers for food.[1]
  • Koletra — warriors and protectors, sometimes shared by multiple guros.[2] They are said to be descended from centaur Heroes.[1]
  • Packers — overseers the guros' equipment.[1]
  • Omeners — readers of messages and signs of the gods,[2] often oracles.[1]
  • Scouts — those who ride ahead of the guros to watch for potential enemies.[1]
  • Traders — sellers of items collected by the guros.[1]

Heptaristi[]

While the Lagonna is a loose collection of herds, the Heptaristi are seven yearly elected officials who serve as democratic leaders of the clans, mostly chosen through trade agreements.[2]
