League Weekend logo

The League Weekend was a recurring tournament, introduced in the 2020–21 Players Tour Season.[1] It was already retired in the following year.[2]

In League Weekends, MPL and Rivals League play against other players within their leagues. Each match win awards one point toward their league standings.[3] Final league standings at the end of the season, after seven total League Weekends, will place players into postseason tournaments — the MPL Gauntlet and Rivals Gauntlet — to determine the new invitees to the following season's MPL and Rivals League. On top of League Weekends, MPL and Rivals players will earn points toward their league standings from each split's Championship.[4]

2020-21 Season[ | ]

There were three splits during the 2020-2021 season:[3] In total for all League Weekends, MPL and Rivals League players will compete in 84 matches —a maximum total of 84 points — across seven weekends.

2021-22 Season[ | ]

In May 2021, Magic Esports announced a return to in-person play post COVID-19 for the 2022–23 Players Tour Season.[2] Although digital play was considered here to stay it was supposed to be only part of the equation going forward. As a result, the 2021–22 Players Tour Season is going to be the last season featuring the MPL and the Rivals League. Players will not be competing for another League season. Instead, they'll be competing for a place in the World Championship.

League Weekends and the Gauntlets will not be run in 2021–2022.[2]
