Lim-Dûl's Battle was an event that occurred during the last part of the Ice Age on Dominaria.
Description[ | ]
The battle happened at the mouth of one of the main passes through the Karplusan Mountains, north of Krov. The Balduvians led by Lovisa Coldeyes and the Kjeldorans led by General Varchild set up camp there, waiting for Lim-Dûl to arrive. Several mages participated in the battle, including the archmage Jodah, the taskmage Jaya Ballard, the royal mage Gustha Ebbasdotter, and the necromancer Lim-Dûl himself.[1]
The battle was fierce, and Lim-Dûl's forces had the superior number. After exhausting her spells on a warded Avram Garrisson, Gustha Ebbasdotter was swarmed by piles of undead, and she barely had time to scream before falling. Jaya faced off against her former friend turned zombie, the skyknight Belenda Danisdotter. After hesitating, Jaya managed to kill Belenda. Jodah summoned the Lost Order of Jarkeld to join the battle to protect Lovisa Coldeyes, whose barbarians had surged too far ahead.[1]
The Keeper of Tresserhorn, Chaeska, was also present, and he wielded the sword arm of the dismantled Márton Stromgald. He faced off against Jaya, wearing a red ward to protect himself against her fire spells, but she used blue mana and cast Unsummon on him, returning him directly to the halls to Tresserhorn.[1]
In the end, Jodah faced off against Lim-Dûl, and after an exhausting duel that left them both severely drained, Lim-Dûl summoned Leshrac to aid him. Leshrac arrived, but instead announced he was leaving the plane, and was disappointed in the necromancer having wasted his undead army on trivial matters. Leshrac then severed Lim-Dûl's hand, tearing his connection with Mairsil's ring, and planeswalked away, bringing Lim-Dûl with him.
Although neither participated directly in the battle, the presence of both Leshrac and Freyalise on the site, and the fact that they were behind the two sides to such an extent, led to the battle also being known as the "Battle of the Planeswalkers' Proxies". It was also known as the "Battle of Kjeldor", although that term inaccurately ignores the presence of Balduvians, and additionally became used as the name of a later battle during the Thaw.[1]
The site of the battle later became known as the Last Battlefield, since this particular battle was the last one fought during the Ice Age.[2]
