Márton Stromgald was a legendary Kjeldoran general during the Ice Age on Dominaria.
Description[ | ]
Márton Stromgald was a huge man. He wore a red tunic made from a padded quilt against the cold, and his ancient helmet was slightly conical. A black cape hung from his muscular shoulders, he wore old mail made of overlapping scales, and his red sleeves ended in heavy black gauntlets. Underneath the gauntlets, he wore ancient, ornately stitched gloves, the leather worn supple from many campaigns. After his reanimation, his bearded face was expressionless, humorless, and dead. His teeth were yellowed and decayed, and he stood stiffly. His eyes showed some sign of life, but they were flickers struggling against the darkness around them. He seemed trapped between the living and the dead.[1]
History[ | ]
Márton Stromgald rose to prominence in the later part of the Ice Age, becoming a successful general and hero of Kjeldor in his lifetime. However, around 2910 AR, he led Lim-Dûl's squadron into defeat in battle against a horde of goblins, with Lim-Dûl as the only survivor. Lim-Dûl later reanimated him as a zombie and used him to found the Order of Stromgald. This was done against Márton's own will, but he was unable to prevent Lim-Dûl using his body as a puppet. The vengeful necromancer also enjoyed the torment this caused to his former leader, blaming him for the death of his squadron. Jodah encountered Stromgald atop a parapet in Tresserhorn, and learned of his undead nature and Lim-Dûl's control over him. Stromgald later appeared in Krov through a magical apparition, being used as a symbol to incite a rebellion against king Darien. After the coup failed, Lim-Dûl had no more use for Stromgald and dismantled him, using Stromgald's sword arm as a replacement for Chaeska's lost one.[1]
