2021-02-19: Strixhaven: School of Mages is accompanied by the Mystical Archive, a non-Standard set of 63 reprinted instants and sorceries that appear in the boosters of the main set and will have a profound influence on the Limited environment. Commander 2021 releases on the same day and is connected to the Strixhaven set, as well.

2019-08-19: Wizards of the Coast launches the open beta of the Magic: The Gathering Companion app, a home tournament organizer. The Magic: The Gathering Portal app is consequently cancelled.
2019-08-14: Starting in August 2020, Magic: the Gathering’s Organized Play calendar will be moving back to seasons that are split over multiple calendar years. In order to fill the gap, the 2020 Magic Pro League season will be shortened to seven months. There will be no 2020 World Championship.

2019-05-29: The MTG Salvation forums announce that they will be closing on July 8th, 2019. The owner has made it known that it no longer can justify the development, infrastructure, and maintenance costs of the site compared to their other projects. Admins and mods are working on a replacement.
2019-05-23: Blake Rasmussen introduces the Modern Horizons Art Series, a series of 54 art cards that can be found as a bonus in Modern Horizons booster packs.
2019-05-13: Gerry Thompson quits the MPL, because of the lack of transparency in the organization and the unwillingness of Wizards of the Coast to listen to feedback.
2019-05-09: Following up on Yuuya Watanabe's disqualification for marked sleeves at Mythic Championship II, he is banned from DCI-sanctioned events for 30 months, is removed from the MPL, and is removed from the Magic Hall of Fame.

2019-04-25: Magic esports announce without explanation that Autumn Burchett is joining the MPL. In effect, they replace Owen Turtenwald who has been removed without an official reason given.
2019-04-23: Release of the War of the Spark: Ravnica novel by Greg Weisman.
2019-04-22: All 36 planeswalker have a 50% chance that the regular artwork of the planeswalker card will be replaced by an anime-style alternate art card in Japanese-language War of the Spark boosters only. The Japanese boosters are made available to retailers around the world.
