Maeveen O'Donagh was a soldier and member of the hidden Council of Mages during The Dark Age of Dominaria. She was a captain serving under Vervamon the Elder, and she later became the author of Memoirs of a Soldier.[1]
Description[]
Maeveen had a pug nose and was a head shorter than Vervamon. She had a no-nonsense attitude, eschewing any frills or affectations, preferring to focus fully on her work and the dangers surrounding her and those whom she was assigned to protect. She had a simple hairstyle, and a smattering of freckles across her face, which she hated. She dressed in greens and browns and usually wore armor. Although her soldiers obeyed her through her earned respect, she envied Vervamon his natural charisma, which she had tried and failed to emulate many times. She held a jealous hatred of this ability he fostered so naturally, but at the same time, she felt drawn to him and respected him for it.[1]
History[]
Maeveen was part of Vervamon's retinue studying the gravedigger Deguhe and the ghouls attracted to a fresh burial. When Vervamon started talking to the ghouls, the soldiers were rounded up by Offero's men, but their charges were dismissed by Ihesia, the general of Iwset, on the condition that they join her in the city. There, they were asked by Lord Peemel and his advisor Digody to find the Sigil of Iwset, allegedly the key to the Tomb of the Seven Martyrs. Inspired by such a quest, Vervamon dragged his team to the City of Shadows, where everyone suffered prophetic dreams at night. Maeveen saw a young man dragging a tide of blood with him, but some others' dreams were terrible and left a dark, lasting impression on their dreamers.[1]
The team abandoned the city the next day, after the sorcerer Coernn had divined that the sigil was found in the fishing village of Shingol. After being held up by elves, Maeveen traveled alone to the town where she saved Yunnie from a fall off Merfolk Vista. Yunnie needed help settling a dispute between the elves of Eln Forest and the minotaurs of Urhaalan Valley, and Maeveen and her team joined him on his mission. They entered the Niroso caves under the Colekgan Mountains and there fought the blood witch Sacumon and her coal golems. They were successful in this, killing Sacumon at the cost of Coernn's life.[1]
The awakened stone colossus Tiyint then became an obstacle on their path, and only with the sacrifice of Yunnie's blood-brother Mytaru could the giant statue be disabled. Maeveen and Yunnie then headed back to Shingol, where they found the Sigil of Iwset under the floor in Yunnie's childhood home. After the deaths of Peemel and Digody, Yunnie was sworn in to marry Lady Edara of Jehesic, but he refused this, smashing the sigil and leaving the others to pick up the pieces. Although Maeveen and Yunnie had developed feelings for one another, they did not manage to express this, and Maeveen said she would continue her adventures on the island of Lat-Nam, while Yunnie returned to Urhaalan to rebuild. [1]
The precise nature of Maeveen's adventures after that is unknown, but she did write the Memoirs of a Soldier at some point in her later career.
