The Magic: The Gathering Foundations Beginner Box is a supplemental Magic set with additional Foundations cards, designed as onboarding experience for beginning players.[2] It is marketed as the best way to learn how to play and includes all essentials for someone's first game of Magic: The Gathering.[3] It retails for $29.99.
Description[]
The Beginner Box consists of 10 packets with 20 Foundations cards inside each one, with two packets for each of Magic’s five colors of mana (200 cards total).[4] Using the mix-and-match system originally designed for the Jumpstart product line, players can combine and recombine those 10 packets into many different kinds of decks. Beginning players can start with a tutorial game with two pre-shuffled 20-card decks (Cats and Vampires), each with a step-by-step tutorial that will walk them through their first five turns.[5] Once they’ve learned the basics, the players can grab two themed Jumpstart packets each, shuffle them together to create 40-card decks and play.
The Beginner Box is a significantly more built-out experience that has a lot more content than previous starter sets. It is full of concepts and cards that are easy to learn but important to know as new Magic players build their "foundation".[6]
Note that the packs and themes in the Beginner Box differ from the 46 Jumpstart packs that can be found in Foundations Jumpstart.[2]
