MagicFest Online was a tournament series on Magic: The Gathering Arena, pitting players from around the globe against each other for cash prizes and invites to the Players Tour.

History[ | ]

MagicFest Online was created in March 2020, at the time of the Coronavirus pandemic. Wizards of the Coast partnered with ChannelFireball to run coverage of the daily qualifying events, the two Weekly Championships and the Season Finals.[1]

The first MagicFest Online took place on May 23-31, 2020, as part of the partial 2020 Players Tour Season. A second season was held on April 11-May 11, 2021.

Structure[ | ]

Qualifying[ | ]

Daily Qualifiers for each MagicFest Online run at 3 AM, 9 AM, 6 PM, 3 PM and 9 PM Pacific Time to give all players a convenient time to play. Each flight has an entry fee of $25 and players finishing 5-1 or better will advance to the Weekly Championship. If you win 10 Daily Qualifier matches over the course of the week, you qualify for that week’s Weekly Championship. As an added bonus, each player that plays in a MagicFest Online Daily Qualifier will receive a coupon for one free Booster Draft at a live MagicFest (up to $20 value).

Weekly Championship[ | ]

Each Weekly Championship is a two-day tournament with Day One on Saturday and Day Two on Sunday. Players are competing for a $25,000 cash prize pool, with the Top 8 receiving invites to the Players Tour, and the Top 32 receiving invitations to the relevant Season Finals. The tournament is 8 rounds on Day One with players with 6 wins or more advancing to Day Two. Magic Pro League and Rivals League members are automatically invited to the Weekly Championship.

Season Finals[ | ]

The Season Finals was a two-day tournament with a $50,000 cash prize pool, 32 invitations for the Players Tour, and two invites to the Players Tour Finals. Due to COVID-19 the latter was never played, but the invites were folded into the generalized Players Tour Finals that took in all remaining qualified players that season.
