Mount is a creature type introduced Outlaws of Thunder Junction. It only appears on cards that have the Saddle keyword action.[1][2][3] It doesn't have any specific rules associated with it.

Description[]

A mount is a class of creatures that are suited for riding or have been trained to be ridden. They are girthed with a padded and leather-covered seat.

Mechanically, Mount is to saddle as Vehicle is to crew, being the subtype that the new mechanic is linked to. There's no real connection between Mounts and saddle other than a flavorful one. If a Mount becomes some other creature type, it will still have saddle, and non-Mounts can gain saddle if effects allow them to do so.

The flavor of Saddle is that the rider is now on the mount, and the combination makes them better.[4]

Mount / Saddle is not going straight to evergreen, but R&D is exploring how often they want to use it.[5]

History[]

Saddle and Mount had originally been designed for Aetherdrift. Outlaws of Thunder Junction had a different riding mechanic (it was more complex, with a mutate-ish quality). R&D decided it was odd to have two different mechanical version hitting the same flavor so close to one another. Saddle was simple and more intuitive, so they changed OTJ’s mechanic to saddle.[6]
