Mu Yanling is a human wizard, pilot, and former planeswalker from Shenmeng.[1]

Appearance and characteristics[]

Mu Yanling is a slender young woman with long, flowing silver hair and azure-colored eyes. She is a hydromancer who can also control air elementals.[2]

Mu Yanling is centered in blue mana. She is capable of flight.[3]

History[]

Origin[]

After a violent wave devoured Mu Yanling's homeland, she was saved and raised by a wanderer named Li Shan.[4][5] But when the two were traveling one time to visit the clan of Cloud Dream Lake, Li Shan suddenly collapsed. He was dead before Yanling could react. Holding Li Shan's body, poor desperate Yanling cried and lost consciousness, but when she woke up, Li Shan's body was nowhere to be found. Despite the sorrow and shock, it gave Yanling a glimmer of hope - could Li Shan be alive?

Yanling searched every corner of the world for any trace of her beloved mentor, from the Eternal Divided Realm in the south to the Dark Sea of Penglai in the north. She even ventured to the mysterious Ten Wizards Mountain seeking the secrets of time magic that might undo the tragedies of her life. She will not give up her search until she finds the truth of what happened to Li Shan, whether he is alive or dead.

After teaming up with Jiang Yanggu, Yanling journeyed across worlds, digging for arcane secrets that might right the wrongs of her past.

War of the Spark[]

Mu Yanling and Jiang Yanggu were lured to Ravnica by the Interplanar Beacon and immediately became trapped there due to Bolas's use of the Immortal Sun. Alongside many other planeswalkers and Ravnicans, she fought against the Eternals of Bolas' Dreadhorde.[6]

During the invasion, the trapped planeswalkers strategized with Ravnican leaders. At Jace's recommendation, they split into teams to focus on specific tasks. Ajani, Huatli, Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling volunteered to help protect and rescue civilians. With the help of Vraska and the Golgari Swarm, they were able to evacuate many civilians to the tunnels beneath the city, where they would be safe from the Dreadhorde.

Yanling was one of the few planeswalkers who remained on Ravnica after Chandra disabled the Immortal Sun, helping the Gatewatch fight against Bolas. She and Yanggu survived the battle and were among the first planeswalkers to leave Ravnica after Bolas' defeat.

New Phyrexia's invasion of the Multiverse[]

Mu Yanling's actions during the invasion are unknown. In the aftermath, she lost her planeswalking abilities in the Desparkening.[7] However, she kept searching for her lost mentor and traveled through omenpaths to Avishkar where she appeared during the Ghirapur Grand Prix.

Ghirapur Grand Prix[]

Mu Yanling has scoured every corner of Shenmeng and beyond in the hopes of finding her lost mentor, Li Shan. Her search has taken her across the Multiverse, even catching her within the machinations of an interplanar war, all without a hint as to her mentor's location. With little to show for her efforts, Mu Yanling has decided to shift tactics. If she can't find Li Shan, perhaps he can find her. This reasoning brought her to the Ghirapur Grand Prixto race in the lower division GP Aspire category. She races with no team, a solo participant who bends the elements of wind and water to carry her to victory and, she hopes, to her mentor at last.[8]
