Nemata was one of the magnigoth lords from the forest of Yavimaya on Dominaria. He was over three thousand feet tall and has served as the guardian of Rith's Grove for millennia.[1]

Storyline[ | ]

The primeval dragon Rith was originally imprisoned inside Nemata in Yavimaya by the Numena, but was the first to be freed by Rhammidarigaaz after Tevesh Szat told him of the legend of the Primevals. Once free, she dominated Darigaaz's mind, convincing him to free all of the primevals regardless of the cost to mortal dragon lives.

Nemata was among the Magnigoth Treefolk who traveled from Yavimaya to Urborg to recapture Rith. The lead treefolk ripped her out of the sky and swallowed her before returning to Yavimaya. Multani saw Nemata dwarfing the shagback hickories of Urborg, while the treefolk was swatting boughs through a swarm of dragon engines like a man struggles to drive off a swarm of bats.

Only three treefolk were said to be present at the first anniversary of the end of the Phyrexian Invasion. Though they weren't named, one can be presumed to have been Nemata.

Dominaria United[ | ]

Rith's sudden escape during the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria left Nemata furious, and he woke his fellow treefolk to recapture the dragon.[1]

Note[ | ]

The description of the magnigoth guardian in which Rith was imprisoned more closely resembles another magnigoth treefolk, Verdeloth the Ancient.
