Onatah was an Anaba shaman from Ulgrotha around the time of the Homelands (ca. 3800 AR).
Description[ | ]
Onatah was a multifaceted leader who combined spiritual wisdom with practical guidance. Her respect for tradition, coupled with her ability to harness natural powers, made her an indispensable figure among the Anaba. Through her, the Anaba Shamans were not just practitioners of ancient rites but also vital protectors and motivators of their people.
Onatah was a prominent figure within the Minotaur tribe residing in the hidden recesses of the Koskun Mountains of Ulgrotha. As a shaman, she embodied a deep connection to the mountains and the natural elements, guiding her people through both spiritual and physical realms. Her role extended beyond mere spiritual guidance; she communicated with storms, led ceremonial rites, and marked the bodies of brave Anaba with ritualistic tattoos, signifying their endurance and courage.[1]
Onatah held the Anaba Spirit Crafters in high esteem, acknowledging their role in singing the tales of the tribe, from those who had passed to those yet to be born.[2] She revered the Didgeridoo, an instrument symbolic of her people, using it to evoke the legacy of Feroz, a Planeswalker who had once lived among the Anaba and delivered them from peril. Her acknowledgment of Feroz’s contributions highlighted her respect for those who had aided her tribe and her desire to keep their memories alive through music and ceremony.[3]
Despite her awareness of the challenges faced by her people, including the possible extinction of labyrinth minotaurs,[4] Onatah remained resolute. She encouraged her tribe to embrace adversity with courage, believing that strength could be drawn from such trials. Her leadership was not just spiritual but also motivational, urging the Anaba to find fortitude in the face of hardship.[5]
Onatah's abilities were both respected and doubted by others. While some, like Baki the Wizard Attendant, recognized the Anaba Shamans' mastery over the earth's powers[6], others, such as Irini Sengir, dismissed them as incapable of true magic.[7] However, Onatah's shamanic skills were undeniable, especially her formidable control over storms and lightning, a hallmark of a true Anaba Shaman.
Her relationship with the wind spirits, who often tormented the shamans, was complex. These spirits, though initially antagonistic, could become valuable allies if their friendship was won, imparting wisdom about the world and its secrets. This relationship underscored the shaman's role as a mediator between the physical and spiritual worlds, bridging the gap between her tribe and the enigmatic forces of nature.[1]
Although hundreds of years have passed since Feroz's Ban fell, the lifespan of minotaur shamans on Ulgrotha is unknown, leaving a possibility that Onatah is still alive.
