The Order of Stromgald was a political movement in Kjeldor, during the Ice Age of Dominaria. It took its name from the legendary Kjeldoran general Márton Stromgald.[1]

Description[ | ]

The Order used huge war steeds which sometimes could fly (Stromgald Crusader).[2] The Order's crest was a flaming phoenix.[3] Their cause was "Kjeldor for Kjeldorans!" An ethno-nationalist movement, they believed elves, dwarves, and Balduvians to be abominations.

History[ | ]

On the surface, the Order of Stromgald appeared to be a concerned party that feared the weakened will of Kjeldor's king, Darien. However, under the surface, the Order had more malign roots. The Order was formed by former Kjeldoran knight Avram Garrison and the necromancer and archenemy of the people of Kjeld, Lim-Dûl. The true intent of the Order of Stromgald was to assassinate Darien and weaken the political structure of Kjeld, hastening Lim-Dûl's victory over the already assaulted nation. Their staged coup was foiled by Jodah, Jaya Ballard, Gustha Ebbasdotter and Varchild defending the king, and the Order of Stromgald withdrew from Kjeldor to Tresserhorn, where Lim-Dûl turned them all into undead. The undead knights of Stromgald participated in Lim-Dûl's Battle where most of them were killed, either directly, or by the loss of the necromancer's magic upon his removal from the plane.[1]

Afterward, the Stromgald undead laid siege upon Tresserhorn, now led by Chaeska and his created Lord of Tresserhorn. For twenty years, a stalemate held, the keep's skeletal defenders holding the knights of Stromgald at bay. But Jodah and Jaya returned there in 2954 AR, and destroyed the Lord of Tresserhorn. Though Chaeska was left in peace, the balance between the keep's defenders and besiegers had become broken.[1]

The Knights of Stromgald eventually overpowered Chaeska and his skeletal guard and took over the running of Tresserhorn as its new keepers. The renegades who had traded their mortality for ever-living power kept their faith in that damp ruin, banking their hatred against the Kjeldorans and Balduvians who had betrayed their ideals years before. Their leader was Haakon - unliving but still gifted with a mind and the memories of his past. Some time afterward, the keep was visited by the Rimewind leader Heidar. Although Haakon was initially hesitant, Heidar convinced him to ally.[4]

The Knights of Stromgald then participated in the Battle of Kjeldor, where their leader, Haakon, was killed by King Darien.[2]
