The Patron of the Akki is a kami from Kamigawa that was active during the Kami War. It is the great Patron Kami of the Akki.

Description[ | ]

The Patron Kami of the Akki is a massive, terrifying creature that embodies both awe and horror. Its form is that of a giant serpent with stony scales, its body forged from the fires at the heart of the mountain. The creature's head resembles that of a huge armored turtle, with a hooked beak that opens to reveal uneven rows of curved, rasp-like teeth. The center of its maw glows with soft flesh the color of blood, adding to its menacing appearance.

Around the kami's head, balls of glowing fire float, resembling the tadpole-like shapes of unborn akki, each one like a flaming fetus. These fiery shapes are lesser kami in their own right, smaller shards of the Patron, dancing around its gaping, circular jaws. The great kami's unblinking eyes are filled with hate, and its head is wreathed in flickering, floating bonfires, adding to its terrifying presence.

When the Patron Kami emerges from the depths, it is accompanied by a cacophony and a growing intensity of rumbling, as if the very mountain itself is responding to its arrival. The air grows hotter, and shadows move up the chasm walls as the kami rises. This immense and malignant being is both beautiful and deadly, revered and feared by the Akki, who offer themselves as sacrifices to its insatiable hunger.[1]

History[ | ]

Ik-Uk, a lowly scavenger akki, found a mysterious ebon bottle while searching through the refuse of his tribe. When he opened it, he unknowingly released a small, fiery kami spirit. The spirit, resembling a burning unborn akki, offered to serve Ik-Uk in exchange for freeing it. Desiring power, Ik-Uk accepted the offer and commanded the spirit to protect him, leading to the deaths of other akki who threatened him.

Despite his initial fear of the spirit's power, Ik-Uk continued to use the kami as they journeyed together into the dangerous, uncharted mountains. Along the way, the kami inquired about the state of the world and the fate of the akki's Patron spirit. Ik-Uk explained that the Patron, once a revered protector, had become a malevolent force, much like the other great spirits who now warred against the living.

Upon reaching an ancient mountain, Ik-Uk was ambushed by other akki and taken prisoner. The kami revealed that it could not protect him from the greater power of the Patron of the Akki, who was soon revealed to be the same entity from which the kami was originally shorn. The Patron, a terrifying and massive being, devoured Ik-Uk whole.

Inside the Patron's belly, Ik-Uk confronted the kami, accusing it of betrayal. The kami explained that it had fulfilled its promise by bringing Ik-Uk to the safest place possible — within the Patron's own body — where no harm could reach him. However, the kami also revealed that after a year and a day, Ik-Uk would face a gruesome fate as it pulled the flesh from his bones, though he would not burn, as promised. Ik-Uk's final screams echoed in the darkness as he realized the true horror of his situation, doomed to suffer within the Patron for almost a year and a day. [1]
