oracle:"Phylactery counter"

Phylactery counters are a type of counter introduced in Magic 2011. They are used to represent a lich's soul being stored in an artifact.

Description[ | ]

Phylactery counters first appeared on Phylactery Lich in Magic 2011. It is a creature that adds a phylactery counter on an artifact when it enters the battlefield. The Lich is Indestructible but must then be sacrificed whenever the player doesn't control a permanent with a Phylactery counter on it. This represents the artifact being turned into a Phylactery for the Lich.

Trivia[ | ]

  • A phylactery is an artifact that contains a lich's soul so that it lives as long as the artifact is not destroyed.
  • In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Muster and Palliation counters.[1]
