Relno is an inventive wizard on Shandalar.
History[ | ]
Relno needed more money, so he was in the noble Emina's court, sweating under her withering glare. The thing was, he knew she needed Relno's genius because he was the one who made her family wealthy and powerful with his inventions. And so, he mustered his courage and asked for more money.
Emina sighed with disgust, but Relno kept his gaze up. There was a long pause, and then Emina rolled her eyes. She asked him the sum, and when he asked for five thousand, she granted it and bid him leave immediately.
Relno later sat on the deck of a merchant ship en route to his wizard's tower. He couldn't wait to get back to his workshop, his mind racing with ideas. Finally, he had the funds he needed to finish his greatest work. He scribbled notes as fast as he could. It would cost a fortune to ship the pieces from Martyne to his island lab, but he had all the money he needed now. He would send a bird to arrange the shipment as soon as he touched shore. Next would be to create the elementals that he would need to put the pieces in place. He began to write a list of tasks for his faithful homunculus, Zurbit. There was much for him to do.
When Relno arrived at his island tower, he hurried up the stairs to give Zurbit his new list of tasks. He began to pull the books off of the shelves that strangely smelled faintly of seawater. Puzzled, Relno looked about, sensing something amiss. His cat Pip sat on an open book, licking his fur. Scrolls were laid out on tables, and books lay open along the floor. Pages and papers rippled as a strong breeze left the room.
Relno rounded upon Zurbit, demanding by the Five Azure Flames to know what had happened. The homunculus replied matter-of-factly and some with satisfaction that he was just letting in a little sea air.
