Reyhan was a Samite alchemist on Ulgrotha around the time of the Homelands (ca. 3800 AR).

Description[ | ]

Reyhan was a critical thinker and a pragmatic healer who valued scientific methods and independent thought. His skeptical yet respectful view of nature, combined with his admiration for the independent spirit of the An-Havva people, highlighted his multifaceted character. As a key figure in the Samite Alchemists, Reyhan’s contributions helped shape their identity and practices on Ulgrotha.

Reyhan embodied pragmatism, wisdom, and skepticism. As an alchemist, Reyhan focused on healing and aiding those in need through scientific means rather than relying solely on spiritual or religious methods. This practical approach was evident in his preference for potions and powders, even when acknowledging that sometimes nature, like the use of leeches, could succeed where alchemy failed.[1]

Reyhan's perspective on the world around him was marked by a critical and often skeptical outlook. He had little patience for those who sought refuge in isolated, lofty towers, implying that such isolation made them vulnerable to the inevitable hardships symbolized by rain. Aliban's towers fit this metaphor well, as physically hollow buildings exposed to the open sky.[2] His view of Eron the Relentless underscored a pragmatic recognition of the difficulties posed by immortality, indicating a desire for simpler, more manageable challenges.[3]

The people of An-Havva, in Reyhan's eyes, represented a dichotomy between conformity and independence. He admired their spirit and resistance to being dictated to, reflecting his values of self-reliance and critical thinking. This admiration also highlighted his disdain for blind obedience and the suppression of individual thought.[4]

Reyhan’s relationship with his fellow Samite Alchemists and their broader sect was complex. While Baris, a Serra Inquisitor, downplayed the importance of the alchemists' work compared to faith, Reyhan and his peers believed in the power and efficacy of their scientific methods. Taysir’s recognition of the Samite Alchemists as the wisest of Aysen underscored the respect they commanded for their intellectual pursuits.[5]

Reyhan’s contributions to the Samite Alchemists were significant, especially in the context of their survival and adaptation after the catastrophic events on Ulgrotha. The Samite order, originally known for its spiritual healing, had evolved to incorporate scientific approaches, a transition that Reyhan exemplified. His work and philosophy were instrumental in this evolution, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of the Samite Alchemists.[6]

Given that hundreds of years have passed since his natural lifetime, it is likely that Reyhan is long dead.
