Lifetime Ice Age
Spouse Lady Rothchild

Lord Rothchild was a nobleman from Jornstad who was the regent of Kjeldor during the Ice Age of Terisiare, on the plane of Dominaria.

Description[ | ]

Rothchild was a popular man, with some of his province's commoners even swearing he someday would become lord of all of Terisiare. In truth, he was a dedicated drunkard and lecher who let others, like Duke Devareaux and Finroy handle his affairs in his name. Rothchild was married to a Balduvian woman, in the first attempt to unify the two nations, but their marriage was a sham, and she was very unpopular among the Kjeldorans.[1]

History[ | ]

After being fed up with covering for Rothchild alone, Duke Devareaux hired the promising student Finroy to be Rothchild's Regal Overseer. Finroy had to step in and pretend to be Rothchild by donning the lord's shining armor on at least two occasions. The first involved jousting against Sir Udo, which resulted in a lance blow to the chest which required Finroy to receive healing afterward, and the second was on a hunt against the scaled wurm Rhindle, which resulted in Finroy receiving a broken thigh. Nevertheless, Rothchild was as popular among the townsfolk of Jornstad as ever.[1]

Although it is not known what ultimately happened to Rothchild, likely, his unseemly behavior was eventually discovered, as he was progressively careless with his actions.

Timeline[ | ]

Main article: Timeline

Although the exact time of Rothchild's regency is not made clear, it was towards the end of the period of the Ice Age, as rumors of a possible peace between Kjeldor and Balduvia were already being mentioned, and Lim-Dûl was already known as an enemy of the land.[1] However, as Kjeldor at the time of Rothchild's rule was not plagued by hordes of undead, his regency was likely some years before Darien the Great came to power. This might place the time of Rothchild's regency around 2910 AR, and he likely lost the title of regent soon afterwards, then leaving it to Darien's mother to rule as queen until her death in 2933 AR.
