Ru-nora is an island in the southern part of the Domains on Dominaria.
Description[]
Ru-nora lies south of Foriys and Shanodin, and west of Sardnia in the Voda Sea.[1] It is dominated by its conic, flat-topped volcano, which is dormant, but not extinct. The Ru-nor live inside the crater of this volcano. The island's beaches are made of powdered obsidian, the sand grains are sharp and completely black.[2] Some of the island's ports are under control of the Vodalian Empire.[3] The Ru-nor inhabitants of Ru-nora are descendants of the Thran,[4] and Ru-nor means "Five Ships" in the Thran language, reflecting back on the five tribes of Thran who escaped Terisiare, each on their own ship.[2]
History[]
The five Thran tribes who survived the Thran-Phyrexian War sailed southeast across the Visceral Sea, past the Spice Isles to Ru-nora, the "Land of Five Ships". There, they settled and began rebuilding their lives. It was a harsh, unforgiving sanctuary with little fresh water and erosive black sand, but the tribes adapted to life on the island over time, and their numbers began to grow. After 88 years on the island, they were attacked by a swarm of dragons that the Ru-nor named "Deathwings", and many of the islanders were killed. To defend themselves, they started building kites made of dragon skin and dragon bone. These kites were lifted up into the air by the winds created by the dragons swarming, and the islanders stood in cages mounted on the kites to attack those dragons that came too close to the lip of the crater. They repeated this every 150 years when the dragons returned.[2]
